The Monarch Theatre is pleased to present two special screenings of V for Vendetta on November 4th and 5th at 7:30PM.

Set against the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain, V For Vendetta tells the story of a mild-mannered young woman named Evey who is rescued from a life-and-death situation by a masked vigilante known only as “V.” Incomparably charismatic and ferociously skilled in the art of combat and deception, V ignites a revolution when he detonates two London landmarks and takes over the government-controlled airwaves, urging his fellow citizens to rise up against tyranny and oppression. As Evey uncovers the truth about V’s mysterious background, she also discovers the truth about herself – and emerges as his unlikely ally in the culmination of his plot to bring freedom and justice back to a society fraught with cruelty and corruption.

    Sean says:

I was actually wondering if the Remember Remember the 5th of November rhyme was the reason it was premiering on November 5, but I wonder if anyone else made the connection as well?

    Vaughn says:

It’s actually a direct quote from the movie, unless you were trying to get people to guess, in which case I just ruined it:

V: Not anymore. Remember, remember the 5th of November. The gunpowder, treason, and plot. I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.

I already knew that, I was implying I knew the rhyme, and wondered if it had a connection to the November 5th premiere of it at The Monarch, and wondered if anyone else had picked up on it, JEEZ.

    The Monarch Theatre says:

We actually chose to play V for Vendetta because of the connection to Guy Fawkes, and being that in the UK, November 5th is celebrated as Guy Fawkes Night or Bonfire Night. We like the idea of subverting a holiday that originally served to condemn a supposed traitor into a holiday that celebrates a revolutionary and the power of the people over their government.

    ^ I knew that.

First time I saw it in theaters I got that right away without having ever seen any previews or hearing about it at all. I grew up around British people where once a year we’d have this massive bonfire (it was like 20 feet wide), then we’d toss in a scarecrow type thing. There would be fireworks and soup in a cup and fire department would be there and it was fun.
