The Medicine Hat Hockey Hound Junior B Cubs are searching for young energetic volunteers to be part of the team as game day Staff. There are tons of hockey fans in Medicine Hat that love to watch a game live but can’t get tickets to a Tigers game. Our intentions are not to bash the Tigers but to promote the young local talent that we have right here in our city with the Cubs. The Cubs strive every year to improve the image on and off the ice, both for the league and themselves. The Heritage Junior Hockey League consists of 15 teams and is recognized as the elite league in Alberta when it comes to Junior B hockey. The HJHL continues to improve it’s image also, focusing on removing the old title of Jungle B hockey that has been around for many years. The league and Cubs are dedicated to being a disciplined league and it has shown as the number of fights in games has declined over the last 3 years due to strict enforcement from Hockey Canada, Hockey Alberta and the HJHL.

Our goal is to not only improve the on ice product but to make it an exciting experience for all who come to a game.

What we are looking at in regards to game day staff is people with ideas to help make the game exciting before, during and after the game. This group of young individuals can brainstorm, then through a bunch of their ideas together and then go with it.

We are looking for a spectator host/announcer, music man, ice crew, cheerleaders behind the scene helpers or anything else you can think of.

If this is something that interests you please contact the Cubs by email at web@medicinehatcubs.com

As an addendum to the Midnight Madness Downtown 2009 article recently posted, the Esplanade has a great line-up scheduled for Thursday:

Medicine Hat Tigers Add to the Madness at the Esplanade

The Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre celebrates Midnight Madness on Thursday, Nov. 26 with a free craft workshop for kids, free admission to the galleries, guided tours, free hot chocolate and popcorn, and an Xbox™ tournament against a Medicine Hat Tiger hockey player. Midnight Madness activities are free and open to the public.

“The Art Gallery and Museum are currently showcasing Hockey Culture at the Esplanade with three exhibitions related to hockey, so it was natural to invite the Medicine Hat Tigers downtown for Midnight Madness to continue the whole hockey theme,” says Joanne Marion, Curator of Art at the Esplanade. As coaches and players take to the ice today at FLC they are remembering one man in particular – Tony Aasman. Aasman, a city Hockey veteran, lost his battle with cancer just under a year ago. As his devotion to the game, even after his passing, lived on. Aasman lived for Kids minor Hockey in the city and people are remembering him with a 4-on-4 Tournament at the Leisure Centre today. Although he didn’t play much competitive hockey growing up, he had plenty of success teaching the game. It was September 9, 2008 when he had the chance to coach for a final time in a Tigers’ pre-season matchup, when his son Ryan came home with the Prince Albert Raiders to verse our Tabbies. Just 8 days later, Ryan had to make his way home again to say good-bye to his dad for the final time.

So if you have the opportunity, head up to the FLC today and get in on the action, you can also enter raffles for items like a Willie Desjardins-Tyler Ennis Canada World Juniors Photo, Ennis Team Canada Jersey, and more. The price for the raffle is 10 for $5 and of course, goes to a good cause.
