More information on Craig Cardiff:

With 15 albums in 16 years, Craig Cardiff is used to putting out a lot of new music. But this November, he’ll do something he’s never done before – release a double album.

On Nov. 19, the Arnprior-based folk singer will release Love Is Louder (Than All This Noise), a new double album featuring full-band versions of some songs and quieter, stripped-down versions of others, gentle whispers and powerful cries.

Cardiff is excited to share these new songs during an Alberta tour Nov. 13-17 that includes shows in Lethbridge, Calgary, Cochrane, Medicine Hat and High River.

Cardiff has been working with producer Ben Leggett of North Bay, and he is excited to work with Leggett again on a follow up to Floods and Fires, the album that earned Cardiff a nomination for a 2012 Juno Award for Roots and Traditional Album of the Year: Solo and a Canadian Folk Music Award nomination as 2012 Contemporary Singer of the Year.

“Working with Ben Leggett again is amazing, and there’s a lot to be said for not producer-hopping,” says Cardiff. “I think if you can develop a relationship where both of you are challenged and both of you are pushed out of your comfort zone, that is mutually beneficial.”

Initially, Cardiff brought 22 songs to Leggett, and as they began working on Love Is Louder (Than All This Noise), they wrote a couple more. As they talked about how to arrange the songs and asked each other whether they should be band songs or gentler songs, they decided to let the songs be both, and the double album took shape.

The result is two very different albums and, even, two very different versions of the same song.

“I think the songs have got a different heart to them,” says Cardiff.

Cardiff and Leggett recorded Love Is Louder (Than All This Noise) primarily in Cardiff’s Mima Street Studios in Arnprior – which he and Leggett built together during the recording of Floods and Fires – the Chalet Studio in Claremont, and the Schoolhouse outside Huntsville.

Hailed by Gordon Lightfoot as a “songwriter who needs to be heard,” Cardiff is known not only for his musical style, but also for the close relationship he has with his fans. He has been nurturing that close relationship throughout his 16-year career by performing wherever people want to see him. A long-time advocate of alternate venue touring, Cardiff has played in backyards, prisons, camps, churches and many, many living rooms.

Armed with an extensive catalogue of songs, his Book of Truths, sharp wit and soft voice, Cardiff makes it a point to keep the relationship with his fans personal, inviting and accepting any opportunity to make his audience as much a part of the performance as he is.
