Medicine Hat’s Image Pot

Recently launched, Medicine Hat’s Image Pot is a new and unique website focusing on local photography presented in a unique format on the web. The website uses a very unique and cool WordPress theme for showcasing imagery in a different/less-standard way which really looks great for the photography. A nice touch is also the previous/next arrows to move throughout the site easily.
The website was created and is managed by Larry Switzer, a local photographer/designer himself. Most of the current work on the site is Larry’s, but he is open and willing to post anything, anybody would like to share on the site as well. A bit more about the site:
Medicine Hat’s Image Pot is about photographers and their pictures. Our aim is to showcase these fascinating people and their work. We want you to be able to view the world as they see it. As well one of our goals is to showcase Southern Alberta and it’s treasures. This is going to be the place to come to see firsthand all this enchanting landscape has to offer. We hope you enjoy the site and encourage you tell your friends, family and co-workers about us.

I saw the need for the navigation arrows on the light tables (main pages) but can’t take credit for it. Kudos does have to go out to Mia Baker of Athens, Georgia for taking the time to post the information I needed on the WordPress forums. Credit for the original template for the site goes to Allen Cole. There is a link to his site on the links and inspiration page of image-pot.com. Allen is a senior designer for Parallel MVMT where he specializes in Web and Interface Design. Beyond his other talents he has a clear perception of representation of photography on the web.
In order to succeed Medicine Hats Image Pot needs photographers to contribute their input and images. It’s true that right now the site contains mostly my images but as contributors add their content I will take my place as a part of the pack. To say I am open and willing to post other peoples images is a bit of an understatement. I am definitely willing to provide my time to post peoples images and help those that would like to know how to add their won content. I have made a commitment to myself to do what I can to make this succeed. I have some cool ideas for the future once the site gets underway that will benefit anyone willing to participate. One very fresh idea in particular will blow you away. You want to find out about it cool . . . I will tell you all about it when some of you have posted your images.

Ansel Adams once said “”There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs.” I think what he means is that a photograph does not have to be technically correct in any manner and still be great.
I can think of some many famous photographs that from a technical point of view are garbage, but the fact is they captured an emotion or event that means something to the person looking at it.
One picture comes to mind from the Party of the Century held down at the courtyard at the Medalta Potteries Museum, in 2005. It was later in the evening and the people were watching the big screen viewing of the festivities in Edmonton. I was coming back out a side door after checking the equipment for our web broadcast. I saw a father holding his young son in his lap in the front row. The look of wonder on the little guys face just blew me away so I had to take the picture. It turned out dark, grainy, blurry and out of focus. I would say it is one of the best pictures I have ever taken.
Medicine Hats Image Pot Unabridged Definition of “Bad Photographer”
A bad photographer is the one that has the cameras but fails to take the picture for fear it will not turn out.
