Drew Barrymore makes her directorial debut with Whip It!, the story of an indie rock-loving misfit named Bliss Cavendar (played by Juno’s Ellen Page) who, against her traditional Texan mother’s objections, leaves the world of teen beauty pageants and tiaras behind after joining a roller-derby team in Austin. While her new-found hobby causes tensions at home, the rebellious teen learns that when your small-town misery gets you down, sometimes you just have to strap on a pair of skates and become your own hero.

Taylor and I went to the Monarch on Saturday to see this. Pretty good movie. The theatre was a little cold, though. Kind of neat how the theatre could be run by like 2-3 people.
