Community Foundation Grants Application Deadline Rapidly Approaching

With only two weeks left before its grant application deadline, the Community Foundation of Medicine Hat & Southeastern Alberta is reminding area non-profit groups to submit their applications as soon as possible.

Earlier this summer the foundation announced it was resuming its community grants process after a year-long break. Applications are being accepted until the close of business on September 15, 2009.

“We are happy to see grant applications received in our office daily,” said executive director Mike Christie. “Several organizations have worked very hard on their applications and we look forward to presenting them all to our grants committee.”

The organization strives to make grants that will better the life of area residents, and Christie says they are particularly looking forward to assisting community groups during this economic downturn.

“We are pleased to be able to provide grants despite the continuing poor financial situation,” Christie said. “But resources are limited and so only the best applications and most deserving projects will be successful.”

The Community Foundation of Medicine Hat and Southeastern Alberta serves areas from Wildhorse to Bassano to Consort, Alberta and all registered charities serving the large region are welcome to apply for funds. For more information on eligibility or to receive an application, groups may visit www.mhcf.ca or call the Community Foundation office at (403) 527-9038.

Qualified donees or organizations must hold a charitable registration number from the Canada Revenue Agency. The Community Foundation awards grants for charitable activities in the arts, education, social services, the environment, health, culture and recreation, or any project that will maintain or improve the quality of life in Southeastern Alberta. Successful applicants will be notified in late November.

For more information, please contact Mike Christie at (403) 527-9038.

I wonder if posting articles and events and allowing businesses and organizations to advertise and promote here could be considered charity, especially since we post a lot about charitable events?
