Your Input Sought on the Future Development of Leisure Trails

*UPDATE* New open house locations added (August 29th)

Stantec Consulting Ltd. has been engaged to prepare a Leisure Trails Future Development Plan.

The purpose of the Future Trail Development Plan is to create a long term, comprehensive planning document to guide the decision-making for the continued development and expansion of the Leisure Trails System.

A series of “Traveling Trail Open Houses” are scheduled for August 29 and 30 whereby residents can provide their input and fill out a short survey. Look for a white tent on the trails at the following locations:

Saturday, August 29

  • Police Point Park main entrance: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Strathcona Island Park Lovell McDonnell Ball Diamond: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 4 -8 p.m.
  • Family Leisure Centre (at the corner of Division Avenue North and the entrance into the Leisure Centre): 2 – 4 p.m.
  • Saamis Rotary Park Playground: 3 – 5 p.m.

Sunday, August 30

    • Devonian Trail between the YMCA and the Arena: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
    • Kin Coulee Park Little League Ball Diamond (west end of Park): 4 – 8 p.m.
    • Echo Dale Regional Park: 1 – 3 p.m.
    • Ross Glen Water Park: 3 – 4 p.m.
    • McCutcheon Drive NW (along the trail): 7 – 8 p.m.

“This project is a logical extension of the Leisure Trails Needs Assessment we completed last year and is an opportunity for trail users to let us know what they think and what they would like to see added,” says Maureen Mudry, manager of parks planning and development.

This will be followed by open houses at the Family Leisure Centre and Medicine Hat Mall in September. Exact dates and times will be announced.

Residents can also fill out a survey on-line, follow this link. A final report to City Council is due by early January 2010.
