Hatlife.ca LogoHatlife.ca is a relatively new, community-based event site for Medicine Hat. They also recently changed the design and layout of their site. It features people, places, and things to do in Medicine Hat, on a day-to-day basis. The site features the most comprehensive calendar available in Medicine Hat for events and other happenings. You are bound to find something to do every day or every night.

On top the events calendar, there is also a community component to the site which allows people to register, recommend, create events/places/people, follow, and comment. Another interesting feature is “Hatitudes” which is an anonymous (well, to the public anyways) board of complaints or recognition for anything to do with or in our city. Kind of like a web version of Ticked Off or Tickled Pink.

Medicine Hat Stampede 2010 Poster

Looking for the 2011 post?

Yes, I know we are a bit late on this, judging from the fireworks that kept me up last night. Medicine Hat Stampede 2010 has officially launched with the pancake breakfast that happened yesterday morning at the Medicine Hat Lodge. This year, it is taking place from July 28th to the 31st featuring music performances by Travis Tritt, Little River Band, and LeAnn Rimes (view more information on those), the professional rodeo (more info), rides, gambling, food, animals, and fun!

For me though, the Medicine Hat Stampede has always been about the food, petting zoo and of course, the coin pushers (the softest form of gambling ever).

Way back, The Evenstar also did a post about the Night Show Line-up here.

Still working on the time machine?  Here’s the next best thing.  Featuring live jousting, mock battles, petting zoo, face painting, belly dancers, food and other fun activities at the old rodeo grounds next to the golf course, the Brooks Medieval Faire welcomes families of all sizes to travel back in time to a period where lords and ladies ruled.  Also featuring a trebuchet contest, forging demonstrations, and archery.

Tickets available at the gate or at the website.

2009 Medicine Hat Stampede & Exhibition

Looking for the 2010 post?

With the 2009 Medicine Hat Stampede & Exhibition well under-way, many are excited for this weekend when they will get the chance to visit the Exhibition portion of the event. The grounds officially opened today at noon. The festivities began with a pancake breakfast served at the Medicine Hat Lodge from 7AM to 10AM this morning where an estimated 2,500 people attended. There’s also another breakfast coming up on Friday if you missed this one – make sure you get the details in the guide supplied below.

Many people (like myself), wait until the weekend to enjoy all the festivals. This year it will be running until the 25th (Saturday). There’s plenty to do including rides, shopping, sightseeing, and don’t forget to spend a couple dollars trying to win overpriced stuffed animals! I’m a sucker for those coin pushing games, I probably spent like 25 dollars last year on them. How could I forget about the food? With a concession and/or food and drink place every couple steps you are sure to get your “eat” on. Some of my favourites include the real lemon aid stand with a side of Elephant Ears! Mmmm…

Already concluded in this years festivities was the Stampede Queen Contest, won this year by Candice Wutch followed up by Stacey Kading (crowned princess), and Cymara Shock. The event was on Saturday, July 18th and you can check out the Medicine Hat News video on the event here. Another one already finished is the annual Visual Arts Show which I sadly didn’t enter this year due to time. Dusty didn’t enter this year either; however, she won 1st place last year. I’ll post the results of that event here when I find them out. Most of the works should still be up though for viewing in the Cypress Centre – don’t quote me on that though.

There’s really too many events and things going on to talk about here though. If you want anymore information, please be sure to check out the official website, or grab yourself a PDF copy of the Stampede Event Guide 2009. Careful with the PDF. There’s some huge complex artwork included in it that brought my computer to a slowed halt. *Update* Alternatively, you may view Medicine Hat Media’s compressed computer-safe version here.

Stampede starts on full stomach – Medicine Hat News by Alex McCuaig

Since most things we post about on Medicine Hat Media are up and coming events or news articles, I thought a post about things to do in Medicine Hat all year-round would be a nice deviation. Here is a short compilation:

Medicine Hat Family Leisure Centre offers 4 pools, including a wave pool, lane swimming pool, and a deeper end to accommodate the three diving boards and rope swing. The pool also offers a water slide, steam room, adult hot tub, and a warmer pool for babies and younger children.

Shortgrass Library is a spacious library consisting of thousands of books, magazines, audio tapes and CD’s, spread over multiple floors. Also offered are meeting rooms that include room enough to seat people comfortably, Internet connections, projection screens and whiteboards. The library is not just used to sign out books, but also offers TV, VCR/DVD, overhead and slide projectors, and theater LCD projector rentals.

Medicine Hat Menus is a menu website that includes a very large assortment of restaurants in Medicine Hat. Their slogan “Decide before you dine” is nothing short of the truth, as with nearly 30 menu listings and 150+ restaurants listed you do not have to drive around wondering where to go. The website provides users with the address and phone number of any restaurant in its listing, and also provides menus for the restaurants who allow their menu to be posted online with the website, which is very handy when ordering. Coupled with Medicine Hat Menus, MH Restaurants is a sister-site and provides reviews for many restaurants in the city. Check them out to see what people have to say.

Living In The Hat

Living In The Hat

Living In The Hat, an all-purpose website guide for tourists and citizens of Medicine Hat, has been updated. The new website, which looks much like the old layout, designed by Lynn Costea (Website Design & Development head of Memory Lane Computers), has been upgraded to use CSS and Javascript, and is entirely cross-browser compatible (Coded by me, wee!).

Living In The Hat has a huge business directory, including some 2277 items, a menu directory for many popular restaurants in and around town, and a list of things to do. Bored? Simply check out the directory and you can no doubt find something to do.

If you have a business which you would like listed (which may be beneficial, as the site gets some hundreds of viewers a day), navigate to the Contact Us section and send an email with your name and website link, as well as the category or categories your business falls under.
