The Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre and The Hive Artists’ Hub Society are pleased to announce the official opening of The Hive Gallery & Boutique in the gift shop area of the Esplanade.
The new boutique is the perfect place to find unique local and regional artwork as well as handmade products such as paintings, photographs, jewelry, woodwork, one-of-a-kind clothing books on local history and more. The presence of The Hive in the Esplanade makes sense as both actively promote local artists and artisans. The consigning artists are mainly from Medicine Hat and area, and most of the sales items are created in The Hive Studios located at 569 Second Street Southeast. Hours of operation of The Hive Gallery & Boutique are Wednesday through Friday, 11 AM to 4 PM, Saturday, noon to 4 PM and during most Esplanade events.
“We are very pleased to welcome The Hive Gallery & Boutique to the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre. We’re certain our patrons will enjoy the access they provide to local handmade products,” says Manager of Cultural Development Carol Beatty.
The Hive is regularly seeking new consignment artists and artisans for the Gallery & Boutique. Local Art Studio provides artists with space, opportunities, and community
The Hive Artists’ Hub Society is excited to announce a call for applications for studio artists and submissions for consignment work from artists and artisans!
Located in historic downtown Medicine Hat, The Hive is Medicine Hat’s premiere non-profit independent artists’ hub. Founded in 2011, The Hive Artists’ Hub Society offers safe and affordable studio spaces and a window into the art community for local artists of all ages and professions. The Hive has recently created additional studio spaces, and is now accepting applications for studio membership for their vibrant Second Street location. Studio members benefit from an energetic and supportive working studio environment, as well as from unique business, educational and promotional opportunities.
“The Hive is an active member within Medicine Hat’s art community, offering classes and workshops, participating in many local festivals and events, and acting as an important catalyst for the revitalization of downtown Medicine Hat,” says Stephanie Dalla-Longa, a Hive studio member.
In addition, The Hive strives to support and promote local and regional artists and artisans through the sale of artworks in The Hive Boutique, located in the Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre on first street. With the spring season fast approaching, The Hive Boutique is currently seeking work from artists and artisans for new consignment opportunities.
All artists, artisans, musicians, fashion designers, graphic designers, photographers, tattoo artists, illustrators, painters, sculptors, jewelry designers, ceramic artists, woodworkers, printmakers, students, and any other creative individuals that are searching for a studio or a venue to display and sell their handmade and original work are encouraged to contact The Hive today!
We will officially opened in The Esplanade on Wednesday December 5th. Our new gallery and boutique is located to the left of the main doors next to the Studio Theatre in the former Gift Shop space.
The studios will remain at the current second street location and will still be open to the public on Saturdays. All art classes will still be held at the classroom in the studios.

The Hive Artists’ Hub Society strives to promote local art and artists and supports the local art community. We also protect the environment and support small business by selling handmade and up-cycled products. And since proceeds from sales and classes are used in achieving these goals, when you buy products and register in art classes, you are helping the whole community!
The Hive provides promotional & educational opportunities as well as support and services to its members. The Hive is also an artistic and educational resource for the community. It is a vibrant part of Medicine Hat playing an important role on the cultural scene and in the tourism industry.

Our exciting summer art camps are fun-filled with drawing, painting, printmaking, photography & more. Summer Art Camps begin July 9 through summer until August 24! Half days and full days, from 4 years to 15!

This is a call from The Hive Artists’ Hub for artists of any discipline to submit 2 to 6 pieces of work in any medium for an exhibition entitled Curiosities. Regular Gallery Hours
The Clay Trade will have its official Grand Opening during the Dowtown Artwalk. The night will include refreshments from Big Rock Breweries, treats and live music by Ron Mason.
We will feature works by local artists and artists in residence from Medalta.

The Hive Artists’ Hub has a subsidized artist and/or artisan studio available starting April 1, 2011 for a 6 month term. The application deadline is March 15, 2011. Application is open to artists and artisans of all mediums excluding ceramics. The Hive Artists’ Hub is a Canadian Badlands Ltd. initiative, under the supervision of the Historic Clay District. Located in downtown Medicine Hat, the facility has five artist and/or artisan studios which are subsidized through the Rural Alberta Development Fund. Short and long-term opportunities are available for artists, who will also have access to professional development opportunities and storefront gallery.
