Empire Gaming has been open for about a week now. We’ve checked it out and it’s a pretty nice set up. Each XBOX360 comes with its own television. It didn’t take long for us to notice that you probably won’t be playing beside the friends you came with, unless you’re on a team with them, or don’t care that they are cheating by looking at where you are. Anyway, here’s a listing of tournaments scheduled for September 12th, 2009:

Rock Band 2

9:00am – 12:00pm

Gears of War 2

12:00pm – 5:00pm

Halo 3
12:00pm – 5:00pm
Halo Wars Limited Edition XBOX game up for grabs and bragging rights. No fees to enter, only regular hourly rates apply.

Robert Harrison, the man behind the Historic Clay District’s easily-recognizable sculpture – the Medaltarch – will be speaking at the Medalta Potteries National Historic Site at 5:30pm on Saturday, September 19, as part of Medicine Hat’s celebration of Alberta Arts Days.

Harrison’s sculpture at the Medalta Potteries National Historic Site was created during his time as an artist in the Medalta International Artists in Residence (MIAIR) program in 1999 and is an example of his site-specific sculptures that can be found in Hungary, Italy, Taiwan and other locations around the world.

In addition to Harrison’s talk, the Historic Clay District is also offering two free, two-hour pottery classes and a museum open house with hourly demonstrations in the Working Pottery. Anyone interested in hearing Harrison speak or participating in the classes are encouraged to contact the Historic Clay District at 403.529.1070.

This is a great opportunity for everyone interested in meeting an internationally recognized artist and understanding how he fits into Medicine Hat. There is an exceptional amount of artistic talent in our community and it is wonderful to be able to showcase it for all Hatters.

Thank you for supporting arts in Medicine Hat.

The Medicine Hat ghoulish Zombie Walk is gearing up for another brain and bone eating prowl. The walk last year generated some 80 or so blood sucking creeps, and 2009 expects to be even more.

My zombie valentine for Taylor

My zombie valentine for Taylor

On Saturday, September 12, around 11:00 AM at Veteran’s Park by City Hall, the dead will rise and crawl along a preset path of mayhem. Do not be shy about joining, everyone is welcome. Simply don your scariest outfit, maybe gnaw off your arm for added effect, and show up.

I missed out on the Zombie Walk last year from being out of town, and will miss out on it this year for the same reason, but to make up for it and for everyone’s viewing pleasure, I included my zombie themed Valentine to Taylor in this post. Click the thumbnail on the side to view it.

More information and coordination efforts can be found on the Medicine Hat Zombie Walk Facebook group

If you are free Wednesday night and are concerned about how Medicine Hat runs it’s natural gas and oil production (Prodco) you should check this out. I went to the last meeting and everybody from the public that spoke (about 15 people) were against the recommendations from E&Y. The main concern is that they recommended the City establish an independent board. The fear is that the city would eventually lose ownership of its resources. More information can be found here.

From the City website:
A Special City Council Meeting will be held:

Wednesday, September 9, 2009
6:30 p.m.
City Hall Council Chambers
580 First Street S.E.

Purpose: For Council to discuss/debate the E&Y Report on the Strategic Review of the Natural Gas and Oil Production business.

Delegations are normally given a maximum of five (5) minutes (excluding Council Members’ questions/answers or clarifications) as per the City’s Procedure Bylaw No. 2270.

Joe Rogan Poster

Looks like we are playing catch-up with listing some of the popular/big events happening in the near future. Joe Rogan will be stopping by in Medicine Hat for his recent stand-up tour. Rogan is mostly known today as a UFC commentator, and previously as the Fear Factory host, but he is also a stand-up comedian with tons of performances under his belt. His performances are usually jam-packed with very mature content, so for that reason I won’t embed any videos for your amusement, but there is tons of his stuff available on YouTube including some very funny heckler dissing routines.

The event is presented by ROCK 105.3 and will be happening at the Esplanade Theatre on October 3rd, 2009 at 8:00PM. Tickets will be $42 each (or $48 for VIP) and are available online at Tixx.ca or at the Medicine Hat Mall ticket kiosk.

Medicine Hat residents have an opportunity to comment directly to City Council on the Strategic Review of the natural gas and oil production business (Prodco) at a Special Meeting Monday, Aug. 31 at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, City Hall.

The public is invited to make comments and or ask questions about the strategic review. The City’s Procedure Bylaw 2270 allows delegations to speak directly to Council for normally a maximum of five minutes, excluding Council members’ questions/answers or clarifications.

City Council retained Ernst & Young (E&Y), one of Canada’s leading professional services firms, in 2008 to undertake a strategic review of the City’s investment in its oil and natural gas production business. In January 2009, E&Y presented its five key recommendations for Prodco to City Council: THE JUMP – Read the rest of this entry »
