With less than a month to go before some Hatters could be faced with an empty Thanksgiving plate, Medicine Hat alderman and candidate for re-election Jeremy Thompson is hosting a fundraising barbecue on Saturday to benefit the Medicine Hat and District Food Bank.

All Hatters are invited to attend the come-and-go barbecue on Saturday from 12-3 PM in the Medicine Hat Lodge parking area. Cost for a hamburger or hot dog and a drink is $4.00, with proceeds donated to the food bank. Gluten free hamburgers will also be available.

“We are approaching an important time of year for organizations like the food bank,” Thompson said. “I hope that community members will take time to come out to our event on Saturday, lending the food bank some assistance along the way.” THE JUMP – Read the rest of this entry »

Miracle Treat Day

Miracle Treat Day

As tipped off by Kim Johnston’s Facebook profile picture, today is Miracle Treat Day at Dairy Queen in Medicine Hat (and Canada). It’s the day when calories don’t exist when you eat ice cream… but not really.

It’s actually a day about helping sick and injured children in your local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. All proceeds from Blizzards today go directly to this cause. Interestingly enough, it’s only $1 from the proceeds in the U.S. I guess Canada is just that much better. From the site:

One thing’s for sure, Dairy Queen loves kids and kids love DQ®. That’s why all proceeds from every Blizzard® treat sold on Miracle Treat Day, August 12, 2010 will help sick and injured children in your local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.* Since 1984, DQ has raised over $81 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Let’s make 2010 a record-breaking year! Join DQ and help make miracles happen.

Maybe I am only posting this because I have been craving ice cream for like a week, here’s my excuse!

Medicine Hat Stampede 2010 Poster

Looking for the 2011 post?

Yes, I know we are a bit late on this, judging from the fireworks that kept me up last night. Medicine Hat Stampede 2010 has officially launched with the pancake breakfast that happened yesterday morning at the Medicine Hat Lodge. This year, it is taking place from July 28th to the 31st featuring music performances by Travis Tritt, Little River Band, and LeAnn Rimes (view more information on those), the professional rodeo (more info), rides, gambling, food, animals, and fun!

For me though, the Medicine Hat Stampede has always been about the food, petting zoo and of course, the coin pushers (the softest form of gambling ever).

Way back, The Evenstar also did a post about the Night Show Line-up here.

Hope to see you there!

Bowling Invite Correction

*UPDATE* This event is taking place on the 25th, not the 24th as posted.

Below is the invite description for this very unique and interesting event:

Enjoy a glass of your favorite tipple with the city’s creative community – media workers, artists, photographers and musicians – as well as special guests for an afternoon of lawn bowling and music starting at 2 p.m. on July 25 at the Medicine Hat Lawn Bowling Club.

Invitees are encouraged to bring their best dish, musical instrument or work of art to share. This is a rain or shine event with entertainment inside the club house if the weather turns foul. Kitchen facilities and barbecue will be available. Lawn bowling lessons provided free of charge. Admission is by way of a small donation to the Medicine Hat Lawn Bowling Club.

B.Y.O.B.
Dress whites optional.
For more info call 403-979-1463

I have always wanted to learn how to play lawn bowling… So whether you are a reporter, tv/radio host, photographer, artist, musician or any other type of media worker, stop by with some food and drinks, and well, play some lawn bowling, or maybe a little bit of croquet?

Still working on the time machine?  Here’s the next best thing.  Featuring live jousting, mock battles, petting zoo, face painting, belly dancers, food and other fun activities at the old rodeo grounds next to the golf course, the Brooks Medieval Faire welcomes families of all sizes to travel back in time to a period where lords and ladies ruled.  Also featuring a trebuchet contest, forging demonstrations, and archery.

Tickets available at the gate or at the website.

Medicine Hat Media, being the forerunner of bringing scam alerts to public attention online, especially with our coverage of StoresOnline in 2008 and 2009 have another one to alert you about. Saying that, I would also like to state that this could very well NOT be a scam, but who has ever heard of anything good coming out of these workshops? Well, besides that cheap digital camera that they give you that will break after a month. Fortunately for us, CHAT TV has helped us with this one and released their video to YouTube.

Official Dean Graziosi Insider’s Edge Website

The gullibility of a certain older lady in the video is quite disturbing; however, this is the type of people that they thrive off of. I can’t speak to the content of the workshop or program as I did not attend the event; however, a simple Google search reveals many complaints against The Insider’s Edge, Dean Graziosi (he has a lot, but mostly his own trying to pad Google with his own sites/products), and their parent company, “Investor Education”. Here’s a couple of those:
