Discover the Value of Your Treasure

The Esplanade Museum and Archives are proud to present Antique Appraisal day at the Esplanade this Saturday from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Two professional appraisers will be on hand to evaluate antiques and artwork.

“This is an ‘Antique Roadshow’-type event, just without the television cameras,” says Donny White, Curator of Cultural History at the Esplanade, referring to the popular CBC television series Canadian Antiques Roadshow and its counterparts in Britain and the United States.

Two types of appraisals will be offered on Saturday:

  • Antiques/Collectibles – appraised by Mr. Sheldon Smithens from the Canadian Antiques Roadshow television series
  • Art – appraised by Mr. Douglas N. Levis from Levis Fine Art Auctions in Calgary, AB

Tickets are $10 for EACH ITEM you wish to have evaluated and must be purchased in advance. Patrons are limited to having two items appraised per category.

There are a limited number of tickets available based on the number of items each appraiser can see in one day, and patrons are asked to register when they purchase their advance appraisal tickets.

Tickets are available at the Esplanade Information Desk at 401 First Street SE, Medicine Hat.

General Admission for those interested in viewing the appraisal process is $5 at the door on Saturday, Nov. 7. The $5 General Admission includes admission to the “Hockey Culture” series in the Esplanade Galleries, including:

  • Rocket Richard: The Legend – The Legacy, a travelling exhibition produced by the Canadian Museum of Civilization and sponsored by Canada Post,
  • Love of the Game – paintings by sports psychologist Saul Miller that explores the world of hockey, and
  • Once Upon a Pond – a group exhibition about pond hockey in the era of global warming.
